according to the submissions ive been seeing in the photojournalism category recently, people seem to have forgotten there is also a "miscellaneous" section underneath "art photography" as well.
or fuck, even a "snapshots" category.
according to the rules, photojournalism is defined as: "Photography intended to describe or document in pictures the events of individuals, groups of people, governments, history, and so on. Photojournalism gives us newsworthy photographs wherein the primary motivation is to recount a story, the photographer never disturbing the natural events in the scene."
so that means, photos of kittens running out of a fucking box, a bug on a stick, a (stolen, even) picture of a girl and a guitar, and some half naked chick on a bathroom counter, do not qualify for this category.
whats sad, is seeing it next to the excellent work coming from photogs like *
Gonzale , =
kinderschokolade , +
cweeks , and =
Ciril . their work is honest, illuminating, and eloquent, exposing stories that are of substance and weight, while also remaining artistic, imaginative, and origional.
unfortunately, with the recent deluge of incorrectly (purposely or accidentally, it's not always clear) submitted works to the photojournalism category, it is becoming distorted and perverted for either an insatiable lust for pageviews/favs, or for some other inexplicable, and inexcusable reason that would place the work in what is clearly the wrong section.
these works only haphazardly lower the standards by which photojournalists follow in the field, or the otherwise wonderful storytelling aspects of photojournalism's culturally transcendental look at contemporary life.
but perhaps im being too cynical.
oh well, time to get

They say that in time things fade away. But how do you know that the person you killed is fading away from your memory and not haunting you in the nightmares of that day?
